Did you know that over the course of a baby’s first year, their language skills will grow rapidly?

At Talk, Play and Read, we're absolutely fascinated by this incredible journey! We know that every interaction, every shared moment, and every story read aloud contributes significantly to this rapid development. Think about it:

❤️ Talking: Even before they can talk back, your baby is listening intently. Narrate your day, describe what you're doing, and respond to their sounds. This rich language environment is building the crucial neural pathways for future communication.

❤️ Playing: Play is a powerful language builder! When you engage in imaginative play, describe toys, or sing songs, you're exposing them to new words, concepts, and the rhythm of language. Think "peek-a-boo" and the understanding of "gone" and "back!"

❤️ Reading: Cuddling up with a book, pointing to pictures, and using different voices for characters isn't just sweet; it's a direct line to vocabulary expansion, phonological awareness, and an early love for stories. Even board books without words are fantastic for encouraging conversation and observation!

This rapid growth isn't just about speaking; it's about understanding, connecting, and making sense of their world. As they try to imitate sounds and respond to your voice, they're laying the groundwork for a lifetime of effective communication and literacy.

At Talk, Play and Read, we're here to support you every step of the way with resources and books specifically designed to make these interactions fun and impactful. Check out our books here: https://talkplayandread.com/order/

Let's celebrate every little sound, every babble, and every new word as your baby embarks on their amazing language adventure!

My baby is 10 now, but it was resources like these that helped my husband and I make the most of his baby time. He’s able to communicate very well. I would defin Have added this to my resource list if I’d seen it back then🥰

As you share a story, try gently inviting them to point to and label pictures. Ask simple questions like, “What do you see?” or “What’s happening here?” and model short sentences for them to repeat.
These small, loving interactions can make a big difference in building their vocabulary and language skills. It’s not about perfection—it’s about creating a safe, joyful space for them to explore and grow.
Let’s approach this journey with humility and patience, celebrating every word, every question, and every moment of discovery. Together, we’re helping them find their voice. 💛

About

Jo Ann Gramlich resides in Buffalo, New York, and works as a speech-language pathologist and child educational facilitator. She changes the statistics on how many kids who love school can receive sustainable employment because they can read. She supports children and families and helps them from falling into the behind cycle. “The Behind Cycle” is being behind, falling behind, and staying behind. The main goal is stopping the cycle so children are “no longer behind.” Jo Ann lends a helping hand by empowering families to support their children's learning through guidance, education, and support. She raises the number of students who graduate from high schools and universities by grabbing them when they are young and intervening during the early stages of their lives. She helps kids acquire the necessary skills to learn the fundamentals of reading while simultaneously instilling a lifelong love of learning in children. Jo Ann is the founder of Talk, Play, and Read. She continues to share her message with parents, caregivers, and educators to help bring awareness of the importance of early language and literacy development. Her books and programs are making a real difference in the lives of many children and she wants to reach even more families. Jo Ann has been in the field of speech-language pathology for over 30 years, is an award-winning author of Talk, Play, And Read books, and an International Best-Selling author. Her books are gifted to celebrities and media at the Academy Awards' event week in Los Angeles. She is an expert facilitator and has spoken to small groups up to televised stages and changed the lives of thousands of children.
